Melissa began her post-secondary journey studying Health Science at Georgian College with the goal of becoming a Registered Nurse.

During her studies, she took a part-time job at a veterinary hospital, and everything changed. Inspired by the experience and her deep love for animals, Melissa shifted her career path toward veterinary medicine in 2002 and has never looked back.

Melissa is proud to be leading the dynamic team at York Veterinary Hospital as Hospital Manager. With years of experience as a veterinary technician in a fast paced, high volume hospital, she brings a deep understanding of both patient care and team support.

Throughout her career, Melissa has taken on managing roles with a strong focus on fostering a positive, collaborative workplace culture.

Melissa’s heart breaks for the nervous and fearful patients who come through the door, which led her to becoming Fear Free Certified. This training helps her better understand and support anxious animals, ensuring their visits are as stress-free and comfortable as possible.

In addition to her Fear Free Certification, Melissa also holds certifications in both Basic and Advanced Life Support through the RECOVER Initiative: Veterinary CPR Experts, equipping her with the skills to act quickly and effectively in emergency situations.

Her passion for animal welfare extends beyond the hospital walls. Melissa is actively involved with a veterinary outreach NGO, The Global Alliance for Animals and People (Canada) and has travelled numerous times to Honduras, Guatemala, Jamaica, and more than a dozen remote First Nations communities in Northern Ontario. Through these spay and neuter campaigns, she helps provide essential care to thousands of pets, where veterinary services are limited or unavailable.

Melissa shares her home with two beloved dogs; Jaxson, a spirited Norwich Terrier, and Fenwix, her loyal shorty bull. When she’s not at work or volunteering, you can find her at the cottage on Windermere Lake in Northern Ontario, soaking up the peace and quiet of cottage life.
